Is It Safe to Install Your Own Stairlift?

Every great once in a while, we’ll get a customer who thinks, “If I have my friend/relative install the stairlift, then I won’t have to pay for installation.” And while some companies might allow you to pursue this option, that’s not the way we work at TwinCity Stairlifts. When you get a stairlift from us, permit and installation costs are included.

Why? We want to make sure the stairlift is correctly installed. Since we’ve installed hundreds of stairlifts all over theMinneapolis/St Paul areas, we know what we’re doing.

We don’t believe installing a stairlift should be a DIY project. To properly do the job, you need to have your lift installed by a trained professional. Here are some reasons why:

DIY stairlift installation can be dangerous
Numerous incidents of injuries and even death have been the result of DIY stairlift installation. There was one instance in England where a young boy perished in a tragic stairlifts accident. It was revealed that the lift was installed by a relative who had no instructions. The coroner wrote in his report, “Stairlifts should be installed by somebody who knows what they are doing.”

DIY stairlift can cost you more in the end
If you’ve never installed a stairlift before, then you are prone to making more mistakes than someone who has installed one before. You may forget a piece or use the wrong tools. These mistakes lead to danger and can damage your home. And when your home is damaged, you’ll have to invest more money in the end for repairs and to have the stairlift professionally installed.

Who’s going to help?
Online dealers advertise stairlifts are easy to install because they want to sell stairlifts. Once you purchase it and it’s delivered to your home, you’re on your own. If you have any issues with the installation or can’t figure out why the unit isn’t working, that online dealer isn’t going to come out to your house and fix it. When you go with us, you won't be on your own!
